About this deal

However, I am just not convinced that a woman up to her eyes in nappies, breast feeding, toddler tantrums and professional self-doubt would have the energy or the inclination to put a great deal of time and effort into sleuthing, given all that she is juggling!

Just when we think we have it figured out, there are more twists and turns, and the drama surrounding them all intensifies. An unbelievable story line where an intelligent career woman nearly dies for somebody she meets at 3am in a London park! Although I liked Tim, and felt compassion for all he has endured-I struggled whenever the narrative switched to Mary! She’s also irresponsible in putting her children in danger at times, although she does cop to it eventually.

I absolutely loved Claire McGowan's writing in I Know You and What You Did, so naturally I was pumped af to grab her latest off NetGalley. The final resolution to Sam’s disappearance and several other unsolved crimes is almost like pulling a rabbit out of a hat – fine for a magic show but not a very satisfactory ending for a mystery novel.

And life becomes a constant revolving door of meeting each childs' needs one after the other after the other after the other. The two of them report what they have seen to the police but nothing much comes of it, so they decide to continue their own investigation. While I enjoyed some of the OTT moments, I feel like it would’ve worked better if the book was aiming to be a darkly comedic mystery. There are some books that you have to keep reading (or listening to) because they’re so well written and plotted that you are drawn in and have to know what happens next.

I have heard great things about this author’s work, so I will have to give her another try-but this one unfortunately, was a MISS for me. The author did a really great job of setting the witching hour scene and anybody who finds themselves awake through the night will really empathise with the characters.I’ll spare you my entire rant about the ending which has the collective logic of storing ice cream in a heated oven. I personally would like to know where the mum of two young children finds the time of day to do this?

After the police are somewhat dismissive of their concerns, Tim and Mary set out to investigate on their own.Believing it’s connected to the recent disappearance with a local teenager, they start investigating and getting increasingly intertwined in the mystery. They end up being partners who are trying to find out what they saw one night in an abandoned home in their neighborhood.
