About this deal

I am putting this in a table here with ToyKeeper’s permission. Thanks, TK! This is so much better than me writing it because it’s more reliable, and I completely trust its accuracy (at least, if I can paste accurately). I’m breaking it up a little differently than ToyKeeper did, though I certainly understand why it was done her way originally. USB C CHARGE AND DISCHARGE: Sofirn Q8 plus features a built-in type C port that both supports charging and discharging. The indicator light change from flashing blue to steady blue when fully charged. When charging your devices, the indicator light change from steady orange to flashing orange when battery low.(USB C to C cable NOT included) Behind the switch are three sets of LED’s: blue, orange, and green. The green LED’s are controlled through the Anduril firmware and their brightness/behavior can be changed to suit your preferences. The blue and orange LED’s are controlled via the USB controller, which is completely separate from the Anduril firmware and cannot be controlled by the user at all. The blue LED’s indicate charging status (blinking blue is charging, constant blue is fully charged) and the orange indicate the powerbank function has been activated.

The included Sofirn 18650 cells were charged until the charging circuit completed and then each mode was tested. Each runtime test was done until the lights shut off unless they were to take over 24 hours. Mode First, the table for Either User Interface. These actions work whether you’re in Simple or Advanced UI. State GOING TO LAST: Aerospace-grade aluminum body with IPX8 rated water-resistant—withstand harsh environments like heavy rains, storms, and hurricanes. Plus, Sofirn provides a perfect warranty with helpful customer service. The Sofirn Q8 is exactly as I expected here. From initial photos I had seen of the light, it seemed glossy, but that disappears when holding it in your hands. T he finish is identical to what I have seen on most other Sofirn options, with afew exceptions. Here are a couple of charge graphs. I tested with USB to USB-C (as intended by Sofirn based on the cable they included.) I also tested with USB-C to USB-C, and that works a bit better I think. There are two versions of the Sofirn Q8 Plus flashlight, but they differ only in emitter temperature. There are 6500K (seen here) and 5000K. Either can be had with or without cells. Price

The emitter of Q8 Plus manufactured by Cree, a US-based LED manufacturing company. Cree is a well-regarded LED manufacturer known for its high-quality products and innovation in the lighting industry. Color temperature is a characteristic of light. It is measured in units called Kelvin (K) and is used to quantify the color appearance of light sources, particularly white light. The Q8 Plus has a smooth reflector. The properly focused smooth reflector gives you a more cohesive hotspot and therefore throws better.Long Runtime: With the Q8 Plus features extended runtimes; up to 40 days at 5 lumens, an incredible 27.75 hours of runtime at a very useful 200 lumens. You no longer have to worry about power outages. Built to Last: The Q8 plus is constructed from Aerospace grade 6061 grade aluminum alloy and drop resistant to 1 meter. With an IPX8 waterproof rating, the Q8 Plus can withstand any harsh weather conditions.

Have a look at these threads. These threads are square-cut, anodized, lubed (maybe excessive lube), and quite long. All in all, this is a good setup.

Regulation on the settings I used was about what I expected. The higher modes are not regulated and the lower modes are. You just can’t get great regulation on mega flooders like this, regardless of the type of driver they use. They just pump out too many lumens from too few batteries to be able to well regulated. The Sofirn Q8 Plus flashlight uses three 21700 cells and has six Cree XHP50.2 emitters. It runs Anduril 2 and has an indicating switch, too! Q8 Plus comes with a firmware called Anduril (version 202202080614 to be specific). It’s a highly-configurable and feature-rich UI that’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s a joyto use if you know it well. I’m not remotely prepared to do a whole UI breakdown, so I’ll just direct you to the official Anduril 2 Manualwhich has a UI table at the bottom. With that said, here are a few of my favorite features. Most of these are highly configurable or optional, so if you don’t like one, you can probably disable or change it! Measurement disclaimer: Testing flashlights is my hobby. I use hobbyist-level equipment for testing, including some I made myself. Try not to get buried in the details of manufacturer specifications versus measurements recorded here; A certain amount of difference (say, 10 or 15%) is perfectly reasonable. What’s Included

Sofirn has used four Cree XHP50.2 emitters in the Q8 Pro. Mine are 5000K, but the most available option is 6500K. Q8 Plus uses a basic drive that’s held in by two screws. It’s got an Attiny1616 microcontroller which means you don’t have to calibrate the thermal sensor and that’s a big improvement. Charging is facilitated by a USB-C port on the side of the light. It’s covered by Sofirn’s excellent port cover they use on many of their lights. It’s the best rubber port cover design I’ve come across. USB C-to-C charging cables work fine and it can also function as a powerbank. Charging from empty took six hours from a 5V 3A source which is pretty slow, but supporting USB-PD charging protocol for faster speeds would increase the price so I can live with the slow charging. The light can’t be powered by the USB port alone. The batteries must be installed for it to work, but it can be used while charging which is nice. Competition

The tailcap is removable, but there’s no point; it’s a dumb tailcap. I don’t believe it even carries any current. So while it’s removable (maybe in case you want to do maintenance on the inside or something), there’s no need to do so. Updated emitters: 6* XHP50B LEDs. Using 21700 batteries, the maximum output is 16000lm. If you use high-drain batteries the max output can be as high as 24000lm Yes, memorizes last on state setting either smooth or stepped ramping, but does not remember blinkies
