In 2004, after finishing the world tour for their sixth studio album, Hail to the Thief (2003), Radiohead went on hiatus. As Hail to the Thief was the final album released under their record contract with EMI, they had no contractual obligation to release new material. [1] The drummer, Philip Selway, said Radiohead still wanted to create music, but took a break to focus on other areas of their lives, and that the end of their contract provided a natural point to pause and reflect. On 16 January 2008, a surprise Radiohead performance at the London record shop Rough Trade East was relocated to a nearby club after police raised safety concerns. [98] Radiohead toured North America, Europe, South America and Japan from May 2008 until March 2009. [99] [100] To determine how they could reduce carbon emissions for the tour, Radiohead commissioned the environmental group Best Foot Forward. [101] Based on the findings, Radiohead played in amphitheatres rather than smaller venues and focused on playing in city centres to reduce reliance on flights for attendees. [102] They also used a carbon-neutral "forest" of LEDs on stage. [103]

No one on here is kidding about the sound quality. The first thing I notice in this rendering more than I ever noticed in any before, is the way that Tom's vocals weave in and out of the soundscape. Incredible! That said, there is a lot of space here, lots of room between the instruments and you can follow each instrument through all of its parts, except where it all gets real heavy and layered, but that was not likely the band's goal in those passages, and it might be one of vinyl's few weaknesses anyway. The depth and dynamism of reverb and fading in and out throughout the music is as good as it gets. The stereo mix is subtle but impactful. Mendelsohn, Jason and Eric Klinger (3 May 2013).
